The Backstory Interview with Dwayne Oyler

-What makes you want to produce your own sketchbook?

In the late 1990's I purchased a box of 25 linen sketchbooks that I loved - and since that time I've diligently filled every one of them. As I set out to replace those books, I discovered that, not only were they no longer produced, there isn't anyone on earth producing one of the quality, color, and texture that I prefer. So, with a number of improvements to that orginal sketchbook in mind, several months ago I set out to create the perfect sketchbook for myself. In the process of developing the prototype, I decide to produce enough to make some available for sale.

-What are the important factors for a sketchbook to you?

For me, sketchbooks are a cherished personal possession - so it's important that they feel natural to the touch and that they aren't printed with a logo on them. They should have heavyweight paper that doesn't bleed through or leave deep indentions, and they should lay flat when opened. In order for them to be easily carried at all times, I prefer a sketchbook that fits in a jacket pocket (roughly 4"x6").

“This collaboration has been several years in the making. I'm especially excited because 3DEO's innovative technology allows me to produce an interlocking chain that I have not been able to do previously directly with 3D printing."
- Jenny Wu, founder of LACE

“I have been wanting to launch a try-on program for LACE for some time. I have noticed that certain rings sell really well in person, but don't do well online,” said Jenny Wu, founder of LACE. “The feedback I get is that our customers can’t visualize how it would look on their hand. We really want to solve this problem through technology and enhance their shopping experience.”
