The Making of Chain Earring
LACE introduces The Chain, our latest dangle earrings, a graceful blend of elegance with contemporry design.The Chain consists of three loose square shaped links. The bottom link features LACE's signature twisting curve connecting its two edges to accentuate its three dimensionality. Brainstorming: Every design begins with a sketch
From our 2023 Design Survey, we received lots of feedback hoping to see a new dangle earring design that evolves from LACE's signature sculpturing linework. Referring to the scale of our best-selling Aura and Eclipse Light earrings, we wanted to create a delicate yet eye-catching design that gracefully suspends from the earlobes.

Early Stages: From 2D to 3D
Once the design direction is set, we start composing the dangle earring with individual elements in digital space. From the beginning, we decided to make the earring a versatile piece that can be worn as a dangle earring or as a huggie when the dangly element is detached. We started with finding the right size of huggie as the top part and further developed the porpotion of dangly element as the bottom part for a better compositional balance. During the 3D modeling stage, we paid meticulous attention to its curvature details to accentuate its sculptural visual effect while keeping a delicate and quiet aesthetics.
Prototyping: From Digital to Physical Space
To finalize the Chain earring's presentation on ears, we carefully measure the length of the earring to ensure a beautiful visual impact without overwhelming the wearier. We went through a rigorous prototyping process on our Formlab's Fuse 1 Printer in house. Through the iterations of these SLS 3D prints, we were able to evaluate movements of the dangle part while trying on our ears and look at its overall porpotion to the wearers' faces.
Material Studies: 3D Printing Casting Technology
After the prototyping process, the Chain earrings were ready to be professionally 3D printed in wax, molded and cast in precious metal for maximum definition.
After the Chain earrings were cast, each piece would be cleaned, assembled and polished by our skillful jewelers locally to highlight its refinement and showcase the sinuous details.
The Chain dangle earrings are designed for those who appreciate the interplay of delicate aesthetics and quiet luxury. Whether worn for a special occasion or as an everyday accessory, they effortlessly elevate any outfit, lending a touch of refined elegance to the wearer's overall appearance.
