Goop, the lifestyle brand owned by actress Gwyneth Paltrow, did an exclusive interview with our director Jenny Wu.
In the interview, Jenny explained the story of how LACE was started. She also explained how her work is centered around the relationship between technology and design as well as pushing the boundaries of manufacturing.
Jenny described the notion that there are endless opportunities with creating objects using 3D printing, but at the same time, there are many difficult material limitations. Overall, her challenges were to take her designs from 2D to 3D, transforming simple sketches and drawings into functional and wearable pieces of jewelry (in most cases using precious metals and steel).
She discusses one of her most recent successes: having a very special piece of jewelry make the permanent collection at LACMA. The reason this piece is unique is because instead of the typical black nylon material used for the products she sells, this necklace was made of solid stainless steel.
